The Heart of Beanchain: Community-Centric Features That Make Us Different

Since we opened our doors, Beanchain has been more than a place to get a great cup of coffee. We set out to prove that a business can thrive when it puts people first—whether that’s the people working behind the counter, the neighbors who stop in every morning, or the folks who just need a place to feel welcome.

If you’ve ever wondered what makes Beanchain so community-centered, here are a few of the features that shape our space and our mission every day.

A Free Shared Workspace

Remote workers, students, freelancers, and entrepreneurs have all found a home in our free shared workspace. We believe that having a comfortable, accessible place to work shouldn’t require a monthly fee.

Whether you’re here for an hour or a whole day, you’ll find plentiful seating, fast Wi-Fi (the password is "workersrights"), and a warm welcome.

Community-Curated Library

Our library is filled with books that were important to someone. Every donated title was from the person who loved it—we ask why it mattered, what it meant, and why they wanted to pass it on.

This simple idea has become one of the most beloved corners of Beanchain, reminding us that sharing knowledge is as important as sharing space.

Rentable Rooms That Support Good Work

Need a private office or a conference room for your team? We have spaces available to rent by the hour or by the day. And if your gathering is focused on addressing poverty or other community challenges, we often waive rental fees entirely.

It’s one way we can help important work happen without barriers.

A Marketplace for Local Makers

We know that small businesses and artists are the lifeblood of a vibrant community. That’s why we dedicate part of our shop to showcasing local vendors and makers—people who put care and creativity into everything they do.

When you shop here, you’re not just picking up a gift—you’re helping a neighbor grow their dream.

The Beanchain Community Book

Maybe the most unique part of our library is the Beanchain Community Book—a blank journal that lives on our coffee table and is open to anyone.

People have used it to write poetry, leave notes for strangers, share stories, and draw beautiful art. When this first volume fills up, we’ll photograph every page, post it on our website for everyone to enjoy, then retire the book to our shelves and start a new one.

We hope to create many volumes over the years—each one a snapshot of the people who make Beanchain special.

A Pay It Forward Board

Near the entrance, you’ll find our Pay It Forward Board. Here, customers can purchase a Pay It Forward meal and leave the ticket on the board. Anyone in need can pick up a ticket—no questions asked—and redeem it for a free meal to-go.

Each person can use one meal per day, and there’s no requirement other than need.

This simple act of kindness helps neighbors support neighbors, and it’s already taken off in a big way.

You can buy Pay It Forward meals in the shop or online at bchain.coffee.

Unhoused Help Pamphlets

Another project we’ve just started is our Unhoused Help Pamphlets—free, printable guides with information for people experiencing homelessness.

Each pamphlet includes resources for food, shelter, and assistance, starting with our local area but expanding soon to cover more regions of Arizona and the United States.

Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for anyone to share useful information with someone in need—whether you’re a Beanchain customer or not.

A Model Built for Workers

Perhaps the most important feature of all is the one behind the scenes: Beanchain is a worker-directed company. From casual voting on policies to team-based incentives and a clear path to ownership, our workers have a voice—and a stake—in how the business runs.

Over time, our goal is to transition fully to a worker-owned cooperative, showing what it looks like when democracy and business walk hand in hand.

A Space for Everyone

Whether you come in for a latte, to meet a friend, to study for finals, or to join a community event, you’re part of Beanchain’s story. As we grow and move steadily towards our mission to end poverty in America by building cooperatives and getting a living wage for everyone, you can feel assured that you were a part of something truly good.

Our promise is simple: To build a better world and to keep building a space where people feel welcome, respected, and inspired.

Thanks for being part of what makes this place special.
